Haas House Creator Spotlight

To get things started, we’d love to hear a bit more about your creative journey. How did you first dip your toes into the product photography world? I was hired at a start-up creative agency a few years back. I had just bought my first ‘real’ camera and had no idea what I was doing. I was basically thrown into the fire when it came to shooting, lighting, and working with models. 3 years ago I would have called myself a designer. I waited until my late 20’s early 30’s to change professions.

The content is either something you instantly relate to or is visually fun to look at. There’s a lot of successful methods for reels, this one worked for us.

How has your background in design helped with your creative process?

It’s been a channel to help problem solve and just have fun! Design helps me leverage those ideas that float around in my brain and visually convey them to our team.

You’ve worked with some pretty prolific and exciting brands! How did you find and book your first-ever clients? Did you reach out first, or did they find you organically?

They found us! The owner saw a post we made in a product photography group. We were just showing off some personal work. I wish every client was like that lmao. We’re getting to a point where that’s happening more.

I love how you utilized Reels as a tool to showcase your creative process and gain exposure to your brand. What’s your tip on creating the successful Reels that brought you millions of views?

For us, keeping it short and sweet works. The content is either something you instantly relate to or is visually fun to look at. There’s a lot of successful methods for reels, this one worked for us.

Have you noticed clients finding you through your Reels?

No clients that I know of have found us there. But we’re trying to connect with other photographers and teach them about lighting so it’s not a big surprise.

You need to create space for your relationship outside of the studio. But most importantly, don't ever forget to live, laugh, love.

What piece of advice would you give to other creatives who are just starting to dabble in product photography?

Lighting, composition, and storytelling are infinitely more important than the gear you have. Seriously, get decent gear that does the job for now. Invest in classes or resources that teach the items above. Understanding these aspects will take you further quicker.

What are three must-have set styling tools or resources you can’t live without?

  1. Air duster/brush
  2. Sticky tack
  3. A-Clampies

You two seem to masterfully partner with one another in everything you do. How do you two split up your specific tasks and responsibilities?

Thank you! There’s been a push and pull to find the right combination. Brittany handles the admin work, client love, coordinating shoots, models, and food prep/styling. I stick to photography, post production, concepts/ideation, branding/design, IG content.

What advice would you give other creative duos to help strengthen their work and partnership?

Separate your home and work life. You’re already spending so much time together it can be easy for work to bleed into everything. You need to create space for your relationship outside of the studio. But most importantly, don't ever forget to live, laugh, love.

And last (but certainly not least), what exciting projects or updates do you have in store for 2022?

Our Haas House membership is launching this month!! Lots of editing tutorials, tips/tricks, and lighting guides for content you’ve seen on our IG. Plus direct access to us for help. I’m really proud of it and can’t wait to launch!

We’re also partnering with well loved brands in our industry to start doing giveaways for backdrops, props, courses etc… Lots of fun things on the horizon :)
